Review: Wild Grinders – The Secret Life Of Spitball ; Backside Grinders : The Reunion Tour
The Secret Life Of Spitball
Spoilers Below, Dudes!
The Grinders start the show searching high and low for Lil Rob. He’s eventually found in a garage dressed as “Lil Rob the Builder” and he’s ready to build a ramp. They all hit the ramp, sans Spitball, who inexplicably has to leave to celebrate with his family. Seems as if he always disappears at the strangest times. Rob hides outside of Spitball’s house and waits for him to run and celebrate his next occasion. He leaves his house and heads for a hill to meditate/ celebrate National Doughnut Day. Rob and Meaty doze off watching the meditation process and miss Spitball fighting a giant butterfly monster and destroying him with lasers from his eyes. When they awaken Spitball is back to meditating. Rob searches the city to try and find more info on Spitball but every time they leave a location they miss a vital part to Spitball’s story. The gang hits the skate park and yet again Spitball inexplicably leaves. Rob convinces the group not to follow because there’s nothing to see.
Backside Grinders : The Reunion Tour
Rob tries to escape his house to skate but his mom stops him and makes him clean his room. He comes across a bobble head doll of himself from the time the Grinders were a successful band known as The Backside Grinders. Teen heartthrob Justin 4.0 comes to town and tries to make himself seem better than Rob. This leads to a montage and Rob telling Justin that he’s getting his band back together. After yet another montage we find ourselves inside a giant arena waiting for the epic battle of the boy bands to begin. The Grinders beat Justin in every musical instrument but Justin has a trick up his sleeve: his vocal chords. Justin wows the crowd with his voice but Rob convinces the Grinders that their combined voices will beat him. So the grinders sing a few bars and totally crush it. Justin begins to dance but it turns out that his dancing is actually a malfunction because he was a robot. The record company launches another Justin clone and the Grinders head off for a meal.
The show is visually really nice but I must admit that I liked last week’s episode better by a mile! Last week both episodes seemed to be a cohesive unit separated by a commercial break. This week we were treated to two random 12-minute shows that had literally nothing in common sans the cast. I’m curious as to why they chose to deviate from that course or if the randomness of the episodes is actually the show’s norm (editor’s note…it is) and the first episode was a fluke because the story was so involved. We shall see where the gang heads next week and whether or not the stories intertwine or not.
