Review: Wild Grinders “Getting Cheezy”
So, this was the first new Wild Grinders in a month. What we got for their return, was a weird “Prince and the Pauper” story with Lil Rob and his cousin, Virgil…I mean Cheez Puffy. The sad part is, if you have seen or read any variation of this, you don’t even need to watch this episode. You miss absolutely nothing. I mean, it’s not like you miss a lot, anyway.
Most of the episode was Rob pretending to be his cousin. And, somehow, this was all done by doing something as simple as switching hats. Not jackets, or shirts, just hats. That seems lazy, because even the Disney one swapped entire outfits. Well, that’s the Wild Grinders for you. If I were Lil Rob, I would be suicidal after seeing that my family can’t tell who I am with a different hat on. I know animated characters wear the same thing more or less, but this is rather silly.
Part of me wants to go deep, and ask if Rob is going meta with this show. I mean, we all know how celebrities want privacy. And since this is the brain-child if Dyrdek, you can’t help but imagine that this mirrors reality, even a little. I can only imagine that this is a very lighthearted look into how much he may hate his celebrity status. Then again, I can be completely wrong, and reading too much into this. I’m sorry, but my mind wanders when I see a way to just think about something. It’s a character flaw sometimes.
While lazy, the story is adequate. Kids will enjoy it, probably because they don’t know any better. It goes to show that Dyrdek’s writing team can make a marginal adaptation to a classic story, and make it accessible to kids. There is this one thing, though. This is a kid’s show, and it’s on at 9 at night. Why is a show targeted to children on when most of their audience is asleep? It’s the only show I know that relies on it’s more time appropriate reruns. Nick strikes again!
