Review: Wild Grinders “Blast From the Past”

So, what are the odds that “Blast From the Past” is any better than the episodes from last week? Well, find out after the jump!

Before we get started with “Blast From the Past,” I want to give a special shout out to Nicktoons Network for their wonderful scheduling. I can understand why you wouldn’t want people to see a show that we have deemed trash on more than one occasion. That’s where you pull a Korra and just yank it from the air. But when you give different providers different schedules, people can’t watch the show, or even DVR it. And that’s my gripe tonight, ladies and gentlemen. The Nickelodeon brand can’t even keep a decent schedule for its flagship network, now it seems that the schedule for Nicktoons is just “we’re going to put whatever on whenever we want.” Thanks, guys. I had a lot of problems trying to find tonight’s episode because of your bullshit.

“Blast From the Past” didn’t have a lot of high hopes from me, mainly because last week’s outing was god awful. However, this week was decent. There, I got it out of my system. My problem with Wild Grinders isn’t the animation. It’s with the writing and voice acting. Rob is just not a great voice actor, but he at least seemed like he wanted to try this week. Hooray for trying!

The shining star this week, however, is the writing staff. One of the biggest failures last week was that the writing went nowhere. This week, however, the staff got the basic structure of a story down. The story was simple. The basic story was that Lil Rob went back in time to see his dad win a skateboard competition. What I thought was great was that Rob’s dad said “turkey” more times in two minutes than Black Dynamite has in two seasons of his cartoon. Anyway, a fart powered skateboard will do that type of thing. Ain’t science a wonderful thing? So, he meets up with Google’s father, Toggles. They work on a way to get Eugene to win, but it doesn’t turn out exactly as planned.

“Blast From the Past” was respectable. I’m not going to tell everyone that it’s must see television here. However, this was so much better than last week, I almost want to give it a 10 on principle. Unfortunately for the show, it’s an overall score, and not based only on past episodes on the same show. With that said, “Blast From the Past” gets a score that isn’t damning, but it isn’t praising either. Now, if Nick could let me actually dvr this show, I would be better off.
