Review: Steven Universe “Tiger Millionaire”

Spoilers!

The nagging starts hard and fast as the episode begins, with Pearl yelling at Amethyst for getting Blood Pollup gunk on him. All three of them disregard Steven when the gunk hardens. Night falls, and Steven is still stuck, but asleep. That is, until Amethyst sneaks out, with Steven falling and running after her. She shape changes, and they end up at a broken down auditorium. Steven peers through the window, and sees Amethyst as a pro wrestler named Purple Puma. This looks more like office fight clubs. Anyway, she leaves, and Steven confronts her about it. She uses it as a release, and realizes that Steven knows the feeling of having Pearl and Garnet on their case.

Back at the house, Steven comes up with the character Tiger Millionaire. Amethyst wants him to stay outside, but gets involved when Amethyst starts getting beat. They win, and win, and win some more. Steven takes his character too far one day, when he knocks Lars’s drink out of his hand. Before the fight actually starts, Pearl and Garnet get involved. They’re both blowing up the auditorium, because of their super powered fight. Steven tells the backstory of Purple Puma, which turns Garnet and Pearl around, because it was a reasonable retelling of how they were making Steven and Amethyst feel. Steven and Amethyst get the belts, and everyone is cool with one another again.

This was a funny episode. Amethyst finally had a turn at the character building episode, and it worked. I loved how she changed into a dude to wrestle. Her and Steven seem to go through what every rebellious teen goes through, and I can relate to that.Unfortunately, the show seems to be circling itself, because it’s retreading the same themes over and over again. This is all well and good, but unfortunately, there isn’t much to say that I haven’t said in the other episodes that were the same, thematically.
