Review: Regular Show “Play Date”

After eleven weeks of flaking out on their viewers, Cartoon Network gives Regular Show a new day, but it’s old time! Find out if the quality stands, or if it should keep on flaking out on us!

 Spoilers Below

Mordecai is getting ready for his date with CJ, while Rigby is pissed that Mordecai is bailing on him. Mordecai meets her outside, where they try to figure out where to go. Death shows up in a van from the netherworld, where he drops off Thomas, his son. Mordecai tries to get Rigby to cover, but Rigby is at Eileen’s. Thomas rips on CJ for dating Mordecai, but Mordecai distracts him with a trip to the playground. Mordecai tries to push him high enough to get ice cream, but that doesn’t go well. Thomas throws a fit, and destroys the ice cream truck. Mordecai breaks, and says he will take him to the underworld playground.

They go to a Death’s home, where they get a motorcycle with a side car. CJ is driving, and Mordecai is riding bitch, as Thomas adequately mentions. After CJ goes into seventh gear, they make it into the underworld to the playground. Mordecai thanks CJ, for taking her on a trip to the underworld. CJ feels good, and they almost kiss, until Thomas wants to go on the big boy swing. It even comes complete with a chasm! There, Thomas says it will never work between Mordecai and CJ, and that he has been getting between the two of them without any effort.

Mordecai wants to go home, but Thomas throws a wrench into those plans by yelling out that he won’t get a praying mantis’s number for him. Things don’t look real good for Mordecai, because the people in the park look at him like he’s done something truly evil. Wait, isn’t that supposed to be a good thing in hell? Anyway, CJ comes back in time to have the minotaur husband of the mantis start threatening Mordecai. After he tries to say he wouldn’t do that, the minotaur goes on a rampage.

They escape the horde, and get on the bike. CJ holds him over the side because he kept trying to get between Mordecai and her. That makes Thomas go nuts with his powers, getting everyone caught in chasms or lava. They make it back to the land of the living just in time for Death to come home. Death takes Thomas inside, and it looks like that this relationship is going to go even further than we initially wanted. Mordecai actually kisses CJ, and it doesn’t take three seasons to do so.

Oh, how I missed this show! Regular Show was what got me through Mondays, and now, it’s the gateway to the weekend. There have been major improvements with CJ, in which I don’t want throw bricks at my TV whenever she is on my screen. Thankfully, they are filling the Margaret hole very well, as long as giving Mordecai some testicular fortitude when it comes to her. He was a bitch when it came to Margaret. I hate to say it, but I call it like I see it. The  lack of Rigby, and most of the other cast save Thomas, it kept it focused on the big date. Any episode that gives us Death, or his kid, is a win from what I’ve seen.
