Review: Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man VS. The Sinister 6 “Spider Slayers – Part 1”

Beginning of the end for this franchise.

Spoilers Below

Peter and Mary-Jane are walking int he park when they are attacked by a Spider-clone. After chasing the guy through the streets of NYC, the duo locates a hidden lab with cloning plans from Hydra called Project Kaine. MJ and Peter are attacked by a bunch of clones, MJ reveals herself to be Ultimate Spider-Woman. Turns out, MJ still has remnants of her bonding with the Carnage symbiote, which means yes…she’s got powers. The two destroy most of the clones right up until they get to Kaine whom almost destroys the heroes until Scarlet Spider shows up with the save.

The trio finds another secret lair, this one features Doc Ock and an army of Scarlet Spiders clone. After an intense battle, Scarlet Spider webs up Spidey and MJ and takes off with Doc Ock to Hydra Island so that he can get answers to questions about his beginnings. The island is said to be inhabited by Arnum Zola, but Spidey’s focus is on Doc Ock. He swims after Scarlet Spider and Doc Ock in their underground sub while MJ rounds up the Web-Warriors.

Our Take

Within the last 24 hours, it was announced that Disney XD is getting a new animated Spider-Man series to replace this pile, and I gotta say, I hope it does a better job than this shit. Spider-Woman’s creation and character design are both very uninspiring as was that of Kaine’s whom now is really just an ancillary character. Scarlet Spider actually came off as a rather interesting bad-ass, so we might have hope for an entertaining hero after all, but Doc Ock is the most incorrect villain in this series, so I doubt that highly.
