REVIEW: GOOD VIBES “BACKSTAGE BABS”

A call from the principal’s office makes Babs worry that she’s been too lax as a parent, so she decides to step up her parenting skills when she takes Mondo to a music festival, and helps him impress Jenna in the process.

Spoilers Below

The guys are looking into different colleges at a fair, but when Mondo tries to get in on Jeena’s troubles with Turk he misses his chance, …steeerrrrike!  Worse yet, he gets a pic message of his own mom in a new bikini which causes the principal to call her in to yell at her for not taking her parenting seriously. As a result, Babs starts acting all weird by taking away all of Mondo’s video games, computers, and making him study with Ms. Teets. She even opts to chaperone at the concert, in which she acts more like Ned Flanders by acting as a censor to all that is fun. Soon enough though, she gets distracted, which gives Mondo enough time to try and court a newly single Jeena. Meanwhile, Woodie is off trying to impress a random college blonde girl and Wadska and Turk are trying to get into the show without paying for tickets

I had mixed feelings about this finale episode. For one, I said it once and I’ll say it again, “Red Tuxedo” shouldve been the finale. We had this problem last week, the whole buildup of seeing Mondo hookup with Jeena is taken away because we saw it once. Having said that, this episode was alright. Mainly, because the plots were pretty solid, and even though I think OKGO isn’t all that great of a band, the way the story wrapped with the song  is the stuff Hollywood films come from, which is the sure strength of this show. Obviously, the main weaknesses of the show would  come as a result of the messed up story arcs. Either “Red Tuxedo” shouldn’t have aired or again, that should have been the finale instead of “Backstage Babs”…had it done so, maybe we would’ve been talking about a potential nomination for creative Emmy.

All in all, Good Vibes delivers the goods and is definitely the best new half-hour animated show of the year. With a bit more attention to detail, this could be one of the greats.
