Review: Bob’s Burgers ‘Carpe Museum’
Spoilers Below
Bob volunteers to go to the museum as a chaperone for the kids’ field trip. The kids all get buddies and head to the exhibit but there’s a strike outside. Louise and Regular Rudy veer of from the pack to go to the Amazon room which is a room that looks like a forest, not a popular web site. Bob decides to go in after them and thankfully is able to find them ok, but they have to find because they aren’t supposed to be in there. Linda shows up to the museum to meet the people who are picketing and she decides to join them. Back inside, Tina and Harvey try their best in not being the dorkier partner, but it really is like Vader trying to fight Yoda, the battle is so even that it just gets ridiculous. When we check on the Amazon, Bob and Louise seem to be having a good time, but I gather Rudy is acting like the third wheel. Either way, they are probably having more fun than the actual group where Gene is at where the other chaperones are constantly hitting on each other. After climbing up a ladder, Bob and Louise seem to be building a pretty strong bond, but Rudy is probably dying due to not having his inhaler and some guy took away their ladder leading them with no way of getting down. Thankfully, Bob decides to risk his life and zip line down Tomb Raider style so that he can find Rudy’s backpack. Thankfully, they find the pack and save Rudy’s life! Bob and Louise scram, the dork contest is a draw, and Linda gets thrown out of her picket line. Everyone gets on the bus on time and head home.
Jim Gaffigan as Henry was simply a brilliant casting choice. Jim’s normally quirky but blunt humor plays off of Tina’s more underlying comments rather beautifully and as such it was plain artistic watching these two go at it. That said, there wasn’t a lot of it and I wanted more…a lot more. As a matter of fact my main gripe with this week’s episode was that all of the threads that were the Carpe Museum’s plot were all great but I felt like I just went out to a restaurant and ordered up an appetizer platter with no entree. I wanted more of Louise talking about maybe taking over the restaurant, I wanted more of Gene’s boob-talk, and I wanted more of Linda’s picketing slurs! However, I do want to point out that whilst I am maybe being a tad needy, let it be known I thought this episode was well-written and scripted rather well, I just think that there was SO MUCH going on that it was tough to fall in love with any one story, and as a result I wanted more of anything and everything. In any case, Gaffigan’s performance is NOT to be missed and as such seize this day and watch this one.
