English Dub Review: Assassination Classroom “Karma Time”
Well, Assassination Classroom went into a completely different route with “Karma Time”, formally introducing the ultra-violent Karma Akabane into the class. Karma takes everything that we’ve learned through the first two episodes of Assassination Classroom, and burns it to the ground. That violent streak Karma has, as well as the all-clear he got from the higher-ups, gives Karma the green light to focus that violent streak on Koro-Sensei.
Where the kids have stopped trying to kill Koro-Sensei for the time being, Karma goes in full force. He actually catches Koro-Sensei off guard twice, becoming the first person to damage Koro-Sensei. From then on, Koro-Sensei was on high alert. How Koro-Sensei took Karma off of his game made me laugh pretty hard, because you wouldn’t expect the badass in class to have to sit through getting his hair done up because Koro-Sensei is making sure Karma doesn’t get the drop on him.
It’s the off the wall how Koro-Sensei is able to get out of these situations that should kill him. Karma came at him, with both barrels, and blades blazing. Yet, Koro-Sensei came around and fixed the problem. This goes to show, that even if the most skilled, or the most homicidal humans try to kill him, Koro-Sensei won’t be killed easily. I am really enjoying Koro-Sensei. This thing, that can blow up the world at any moment he wants, is still adhering to the contract/promise that he made before he took on this class.
I’m really glad that Assassination Classroom went a different route for “Karma Time.” I enjoy Koro-Sensei always helping the students, but I also enjoy watching the proverbial monkey wrench got thrown in the mix. Having a show that gets formulaic from doing the same thing over and over isn’t something that many people enjoy, especially me. I’ve mentioned this to friends of mine about other shows on television now, how the writers just recycle stories. Assassination Classroom top notch writing, with an original plot. Starting off Dubbletalk with Assassination Classroom was smart because it’s a light-hearted show with an edge that doesn’t get lost in itself. “Karma Time” is another episode that proves that Assassination Classroom has a superior writing staff and voice actors. Also, that opening theme is a really catchy song.
