Review: Absolute Duo “Exception”

AD ep 4

“Exception” doesn’t keep people guessing for very long when it comes to the fate of Bun Bun. She’s back, and in full effect. The incident from the conclusion of the New Blade Battle is covered up, because Bun Bun’s tactics effective (yet dangerous). So, that sets up the introduction of an exchange student for Tor’s class. Lilith is the exact opposite of Tor when it comes to being an irregular. Where Tor just lets it ride, Lilith throws her status as an Exception in everyone’s face.

Lilith uses this line of thinking in trying to get Tor to be her Duo. That doesn’t fly so well, because Tor turns her down without a second thought. This leads to a shopping day / date where everyone misconstrues Tor and Julie’s arrangement for dating. This here is getting a little aggravating. Funimation seems to love these shows where the main character  is swamped with women. I guess this is to give young anime fans hope?  Anyway, this gets Tomoe and Miyabi curious, because they both are getting really obsessed with Tor and Julie’s alleged inappropriate behavior. The actions to come at the end of the episode brings Lilith around, and she unleashes her blaze, which is a cannon. Apparently someone was listening when Team Fourstar said bitches love cannons.

“Exception” was fun, even if it strayed away from all of the happenings at the school. There was enough fighting last week with the New Blade Battle to cover two or three episodes. So, keeping “Exception” pretty heavy on story was a welcoming change. Absolute Duo can use some more expansion of the characters and the school in general. I mean, we’ve only seen the headmaster in two episodes, once in the beginning of episode one, and then at the beginning of episode four. Keeping the cast small isn’t going to be a good thing for very long. Luckily, “Exception” may be the point where expansion comes faster. Oh, and thanks, Funimation, for the long delay in putting out “Exception.” I love having to wait four hours to get episodes.
