An Official ‘Simpsons’ Kwik-E-Mart Food Truck is Now a Thing
Back when I was a young boy that constantly quoted The Simpsons, my parents used to constantly remind me that it was just a fictional cartoon TV show, and that I needed to get a real life. But alas, now that I’m a full-grown man that constantly quotes The Simpsons, I have found myself in a world where the longest-running scripted show is coming to life all around me. From the fully-functional Springfield now operating at Universal Studios in Florida, to the 7-11 convenience store transformations, to the walking tour of Springfield, Oregon, The Simpsons are popping up everywhere you turn nowadays.
Now we can add another to the list: an official Kwik-E-Mart food truck.
Celebrating the first appearance of Apu’s shop 25 years ago on February 25, 1990 (in season one’s “The Telltale Head”), Twentieth Century FOX Consumer Products has partnered with FXX to declare 2015 “The Year of the Kwik-E-Mart” and will feature numerous tie-ins with the real world.
For starters, a classic food truck will be turned into a mobile Kwik-E-Mart offering FREE Squishees (available in both NOT SO VERY CHERRY and GIVE ‘EM THE RAZZ flavors), along with a Kwik-E-Photo Booth, and a demo of the Simpsons World app. The truck will of course be decked out with custom Simpsons artwork as well.
Its first stop will be the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas from March 14th to the 15th – part of SXSW Interactive 2015. Additional cities & new products will be announced soon.
“As we celebrate one of the most iconic elements of The Simpsons, it’s only appropriate that we bring the Kwik-E-Mart to life and allow fans to join in on the celebration,” said Peter Leeb, Vice President of Brand Management and Strategy for Twentieth Century FOX Consumer Products.
In anticipation of the event, fans are encouraged to use the official hashtag, #KwikETruck, to get the party started in advance on social media.
See you there. I’ll save you a spot in line.
