English Dub Review: The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash “Into Battle”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Ivy and her guildmate Lattrua join the Green Gale for sweets at a nearby shop, knowing full well they intend to trap the two. Lattrua give one of their allies some bad intel before revealing they know they’re part of slavery ring. When the brothers try to fight back, Meela stops them and surrenders. Back in town, the guild works to weed out the rest of the traitors, eventually rounding them all up and sentencing them to life as slaves, though they have to tell the civilians how much the traitors will suffer so they don’t end up killing them for their crimes. Later, the Blazing Swords rounds up anyone suspected of working with the traitors to get more information on the organization they work for.

OUR TAKE

Well, that takes care of capturing all the traitors, as well as wrapping up the Green Gale’s involvement in things. As expected, Meela ends up having cold feet about things and stands down, leaving the guild to take care of EVERYONE ELSE. It is a bit cathartic to see all the criminals rounded up as they are, but the way they’ve gone about executing actually ends up deflating things quite a bit. Specifically it’s that, aside from the Green Gale, we don’t have any connection to any of the other adventurers working for this slavery and kidnapping ring. Once the three of them are taken care of, it’s all either nameless mooks or characters we’ve barely met or gotten to know. Even the ones running the adventuring guild are practically blank slates in terms of personality, just like most of the Blazing Sword, making watching them succeed and achieve victory ring pretty dang hollow. It’s a problem that’s been prevalent with the show since its start, but only been exacerbated as it added more characters that became a chore to keep track of. Hell, I only felt the need to remember Lattrua’s name because the synopsis of the episode on the Crunchyroll app actually mentions him by name, otherwise he’s a cardboard cut out.

And that’s without getting into the eyebrow raising ethics of this entire guild rounding up guys as criminals merely on the whim of a little kid and her slime. Yeah, they turn out to be right, but it’s still a weird investigation method, don’t you think? And now all of these guys are going to become slaves as punishment for taking slaves, which doesn’t seem like it’s going to solve the problem. We don’t even know why any of these people were willing to involve themselves with this or how it got so huge. It sounds like we’re going to figure out something about that in the finale next week, but I can’t imagine any explanation being satisfying at this point. But even mustering up this amount of complaining about it is a chore because frankly, I really just don’t care that much to be mad about it for very long. So, with just one more episode to go, let’s just get to the end of the season and put this all behind us. Certainly not the worst Isekai I’ve covered, but I am not going to remember it any longer than I have to.
