English Dub Review: I Parry Everything “I Parry a Frog”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Noor and Rein encounter a vicious monster and a mysterious boy who appears in the royal capital of Crays Kingdom.

Our Take:
The kingdom is one step closer to being invaded by the Deridas Empire.  I’m guessing that two failed assassination attempts on Lynne are enough for them to start taking the initiative.  Of course, this means that Noor is about to have the kingdom’s fate in his hands despite not knowing what is happening.  Following Noor’s failed quest in battling a goblin, the adventurer and Lynne, along with Ines, are now sent to Toros Mountains by Rein to scout the area for any invaders.
Amid this quest, we learn more about the Warrior Corps’ vice-captain, which she heard of Noor through her foster father, Sir Dandalg, who trained her to harness her Holy Shield ability.  However, hearing Dandalg singing his praises about Noor causes Ines to grow jealous of him.  That quickly changes when the trio encounters the Black Death Dragon, controlled by a young boy who happens to be a Demonfolk.  As Ines sees Noor fighting the dragon’s powerful poison mist, she perseveres in growing as strong as him, although Noor is still oblivious to the situation.
The episode’s flashbacks are a solid way of tying things together and showcasing Ines as someone who shows gratitude toward the brave yet clueless Noor.  However, regarding its voice direction, it also shows signs of the English dub cast occasionally phoning in the dialogue.  One example is Houston Hayes as Rein at the beginning of the episode, where he seems to lack the rageful energy through his performance.  It’s not the worst voice acting I’ve seen, but it does dampen the show’s emotional stakes.  Besides that, it’s another watchable episode that features Noor facing another deadly monster.
