English Dub Review: Mission – Yozakura Family “Feelings”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Taiyo properly begins his training to live with the Yozakura, finding things like changing the TV channel or opening the bathroom much more of a challenge now.

OUR TAKE

While last week had Taiyo go up against his first proper assassin opponent, this week is pretty much just laying the groundwork for more character stuff as he learns to adjust to life in a house full of tricks and traps that his new in-laws deal with on a daily basis. It’s at least clear that, aside from Kyoichiro, Taiyo doesn’t really have to worry about winning over the rest of the Yozakura family. They all already obviously like him and think he’s a good match for Mutsumi, but he’s still dipping his toe into a world that they all have been surviving through for their entire lives, so it’s natural there would be some hesitancy in taking the nerf pads off the doorknobs. Heck, the fact that his house, the place that probably had the last remaining mementos of his dead parents, is because he decided to join up with them, so there’s gotta be some guilt there. And, as mentioned, even just living among them is going to be a challenge, let alone trying to become a fully fledged spy like the rest of them. As we see, everything within the house is a challenge to sharpen some skill that every one of them has, even knowing how to crack a safe just to get into the bathroom. I wonder if that makes them suddenly feel the need to pee whenever they’re doing that in the field.

But yeah, this episode is kinda just obligatory training as Taiyo gets used to the new world he’s in and he learns quite a lot by the end on how to do that, as well as what NOT to do, like overworking yourself. There isn’t really a focus character this time, though you could say that eldest sister Futaba is the mentor for the week as she gets Tayo ready for his proper training. Based on my previous experience with these kinds of shows, we’re probably in for at least a few more episodes giving each of the siblings an episode teaching Taiyo stuff. And if so, I’m looking forward to it. We’re only three episodes in to this show and it’s doing a perfectly fine job establishing everything. And if it ends up having any major missteps or hits some slam dunks down the road, we’ll be sure to acknowledge those. But in the meantime, I’ll admit, this was a pretty solid episode.
