Our Take
This time around, Kazuma and his party receive a letter from Princess Iris. While Kazuma’s heart races with anticipation to hear adventure tales while dining with the princess, who he imagines to be a stunning beauty, Darkness is worried sick that any mishap might cost her head. Amidst this, Kazuma and the others visit Wiz’s magic item shop. There, they find a lineup of new products devised by Kazuma himself, lighters. Thanks to these new products, the shop sees unprecedented prosperity, leading to unusual days passing by.
And finally, the day of their encounter with the princess arrives. Predictably, it goes about as well as you’d expect with their wacky hijinks. Still, I don’t understand why Kazuma is so embarrassed about how telling the tale of how he beat Mitsurugi. He defeated him fair and square in a one-on-one fight, and using his “Steal” ability to disarm him was a smart move. Of course while everything works itself out, what the Princess does next is hilariously unthinkable…
Overall, despite the weirdly wholesome aftermath, I figured this meeting wouldn’t end in an ordinary way. I did at last like how the girls really stuck up for Kazuma despite their dysfunctional dynamic as they know that he’s certainly a hero even if most people don’t see that. As for the twist ending, it remains to be seen how they will navigate the situation and ultimately reunite with Kazuma. And given the unpredictable nature of their escapades, one can expect further hilarity and chaos to ensue in the episodes to come.
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
