English Dub Review: The Duke of Death and His Maid “The Duke, Alice, and Mother and Mother”
Overview:
The Duke catches a cold, and Alice’s mother reunites with the Duke’s mother after years of separation.
Our Take:
Things have been going so well that I have a feeling something bad is going to happen soon. There’s just been too much cuteness and for a show about someone who kills people with a touch that’s worrying.
I mentioned once in my Kaguya-sama reviews that some of these shows are starting to remind me of a sitcom. What I mean by that is that there are ongoing jokes or “callbacks” if you will. Walter’s aversion to anything involving the number two is one of the best. Someone said “twelve” and he lost his shit because twelve is the number one and two put together, I was dying.
The Duke has way more self-control than I do and I’ll explain why. He and Alice switched bodies for a bit because Zain sent him an item that would allow him to “touch” Alice. I guess he was right, but even with her permission, the Duke could do nothing but freak out being in a body that wasn’t his. Hopefully, things can stay happy like this for a while longer.
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
