English Dub Review: Mashle: Magic and Muscles “Mash Burnedead and the Magical Maestro”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

The last of the Divine Visionary Candidate Exam is a one-on-one battle.  The first match pits Mash against Margarette.  Mash faces off against Macaron, a magic user said to have great magic power and is treated on the same level as a Divine Visionary.  How and where will this tough fight end?

Our Take:

Against all odds, Mash managed to fight his way to the final part of the selection exam.  With it being a one-on-one duel, Mash would have to rely on his muscles to reach the top alone.  However, the only opponent standing in his way is Margarette, whose profound musical magic is anything but melodious.  They’re also surprisingly strong when they survived Mash’s incredible suplex move at the end of the previous episode.

The episode shows that Margarette has even more musical tricks hiding within their deranged personality, further proving their formidability against Mash’s strength.  One of them is Margarette’s true form: a young kid who can move as fast as sound itself.  The other is their lethal devastation spell known as the Death Gong, which can instantly kill everyone within the radius with just one gong.  However, despite Margarette’s powerful magic, Mash defied the odds again by tunneling underground and matching Margarette’s speed with his muscles.  Unfortunately, Mash’s victory became short-lived when Innocent Zero crashed the party, seeking to obtain ultimate power by absorbing him.

But that’s not the only shocking thing that happened in this episode.  It also unveils Mash’s true identity, in which he is Innocent Zero’s son.  If that’s the case, then it looks like there’s another reason Mash may be considered a danger to the academy.  Thankfully, Wahlberg steps in to save the day once more, but will his magic be able to match Innocent Zero’s?  The episode not only delivered a thrilling battle sequence between Mash and Margarette but also revealed a potentially shocking truth that may impact future episodes.
