English Dub Review: I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability “Headed Out for a Monster Hunt”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

With an interest in weapon enchantments and their effectiveness, Lloyd joins Albert and Sylpha on a monster hunt.  After meeting Tao and reaching their destination, the group encounters a pack of bearwolves, who regenerate unnaturally quickly.

Our Take:

With the guards’ weapons now enchanted with magic, it’s time for us to do a little test run.  Of course, what better way to experiment than with an old-fashioned monster hunt?  In this episode, Lloyd joins Albert, Sylpha, and the knights on a monster hunt in the forest. It’s not just a leisurely activity, as the purpose of the hunt is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the enchanted swords. We also learn from the bonus anime that Lloyd has also enchanted Albert’s sword, which he used to fight against a more significant threat. The experiment proves to be successful, as the knights quickly defeat a group of wolf-like bandits.

After a short while, the group runs into Tao, which is good news as they could use the extra help. However, it poses a problem for Lloyd as Tao is unaware that Lloyd and Robert are the same person. However, the situation takes a turn for the worse when they encounter another powerful demon, Pazuzu, who has been imprisoned in a shrine. Pazuzu has the ability to control and regenerate his monstrous allies using mana transmutation. Lloyd is eager to learn this spell, and Grim agrees to teach him while the rest of the group battles for their lives.

Overall, the episode is a typical monster hunt that’s far from monstrous despite its tolerability in its plot.  It also showcases Lloyd’s desire to learn more spells rather than use the ones he had learned to help his comrades, including spectral detection and mana transmutation.  Fortunately, the only highlight that saved this episode was Sylpha’s surprisingly skillful abilities against Pazuzu.  While her seemingly sexual attraction to Lloyd was somehow discomforting regarding the age difference, Sylpha has further proven to be a pretty formidable warrior amid her maid duties.  Will she be enough to subdue the vicious demon before Lloyd saves the day again?  Probably not, but I’m curious to find out anyway.
