English Dub Review: Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers “Fenrys the Lupine Warrior”
Overview
Banaza has begun his new life as Flio, but right off the bat, he’s challenged by Fenrys, the sister of a member of the Dark One’s Infernal Four. Flio knows he can’t beat such a powerful foe in physical combat, so he starts testing out his new spells…
Our Take
Banaza/Filo encounters the Wolf Demon Fenrys, one of the Demon King’s four generals, in a confrontation marked by potent magic. Filo, faced with this formidable adversary, experiments with various spells in an attempt to subdue Fenrys without resorting to enslavement magic. Despite Fenrys’ surrender due to Filo’s resolve and lack of magical power, Filo adamantly refuses to use such enslavement tactics.
Displaying mercy, Filo allows Fenrys to escape, resulting in Fenrys’ transformation into an adult human/animal form. Despite Fenrys acknowledging Filo as her master, Filo is uncomfortable with the notion of slavery. However, their shared need to maintain a low profile under different identities forces them to take on a job hunting “Psycho Bears.” This leads to an encounter with an all-female heroes party, during which Fenrys pretends to be Filo’s wife, resulting in comedic consequences.
Overall, the episode delivers humor as the main characters progress swiftly from their initial meeting to marriage within a day. And despite this rapid development, they still face challenges in establishing their reputation. Gaining a rank in the guild offers benefits such as better quests and more money, but it also draws unwanted attention from the kingdom, complicating their desire for anonymity. Now the real question is, how long will they keep the charade up before something escalates?
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
