Review: Royal Crackers “Prison”

Overview

Stebe gets sent to white-collar prison, where he quickly becomes one of the most popular inmates; when Theo gets locked up too, Stebe’s position as the cool guy comes under threat.

Our Take

In the penultimate episode of Royal Crackers season two I can’t help but feel like had the series been not been so awesome this entire year that an episode like this would probably stand out more, but when the show has been stacking winners left and right, “Prison” comes off a bit mid at best.

That’s not to say this was a bad episode, it isn’t. Stebe’s ridiculous dream of a heavenly prison where he takes revenge on Theo is a hilarious premise and the climax was beyond upsetting. Just don’t expect anything that truly fucks with the structures of Royal Crackers like the last few episodes have. There are a number of hilarious sight gags, a Katherine Heigl movie marathon, and an evil revenge plot that’s just *chef’s kiss*.

As mentioned, if it was any other show maybe “Prison” is a standout episode, but the second season of Royal Crackers has been so good this one feels a bit light. This could even be evidenced by the fact that the TV listings have this episode being number six but released in the ninth week so perhaps the network was thinking similarly in feeding us all of the winners up front but that’s just me guessing. If you want a good run, tape up your butt cheeks and give this one a go.
