Review: Grimsburg “The Big Trouble With Lil’ Betsy”

In the process of the investigation, Marvin becomes consumed with his newfound celebrity status. With everyone rallying around Lil’ Betsy, Marvin is determined to find her guilty.

Our Take

Right off the bat when an episode of a TV series involves a murder of a television host goes down the hope is this week’s episode of Grimsburg is going to be a banger especially when that killer is voiced by the brilliantly talented Amy Sedaris. Suffice to say, while my expectations were tampered a bit, we do get one of the funnier episodes of the show thus far.

We finally get to dig a bit deeper on two characters, Chief Stamos (voiced by Wendi McLendon-Covey) and Lt. John Kang (voiced by Greg Chun) and I think John Kang is slowly becoming my favorite character of the series. Kang’s got a similar personality to Marvin in that he’s overly confident in his job but I think Chun’s delivery is funnier and a tad more original whereas Jon Hamm’s take on Marvin can be a bit overbearing at times. At least in this episode Hamm had to split his screentime with Sedaris who can steal every scene she’s ever in. We did get some funny movie cameos, my personal favorite being both the Seth Rogen and Robin Williams’ sendups.

Stan and Flesh’s B-plot felt like a Family Guy plot that would ordinarily feature Stewie and Brian just inserted into Grimsburg and probably not as funny. A LOT of this week’s episode is carried by Amy Sedaris for me. Lil’ Betsy, clearly a ripoff of the Joker, but because Sedaris is behind the wheel the character is a laugh riot.
