English Dub Review: Wind Breaker “The Hero of My Dreams”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

It is the morning of the school entrance ceremony, and Furin High School has transformed into a group that protects the town now known as the “Chime of the Wind Breaker” — Bofurin.

Our Take:

With the introduction to the Bofurin team out of the way, Sakura has his eyes set on attending a school responsible for building this squad: Furin High. As mentioned earlier, Furin High is home to the toughest of the tough, who use their strengths to protect the weak. Although Sakura doesn’t care about helping people due to his past, he knows how to express his generosity through his salty attitude. This was proven in this week’s episode, where Sakura gained his first friend before the school’s entrance ceremony.

The friend I’m mentioning is Akihiko Nirei, a clumsy yet informative first-year who also moved into town to attend Furin High. While Nirei isn’t physically strong compared to Sakura or the other Bofurin, his bravery and heart proved essential to his characteristics when he attempted to save someone from a group of thugs. I also read that Nirei knows a lot about the delinquent students, including those from Furin High, so Sakura would want to keep him around as his right-hand man, whether he likes it or not.

“The Hero of My Dreams” features a classic buddy pairing seen in other movies and shows between Sakura, a reckless and stubborn character, and Nirei, a jittery and feeble character. However, the episode successfully blends humor and heart to showcase why this pairing is so iconic. Additionally, Kotoha’s coffee metaphor effectively emphasizes the importance of looking at things from different perspectives, especially people. This lesson is a crucial part of Sakura’s journey towards healing as he continues on his quest to reach the top. However, he’ll have to deal with Kyotaro first before he starts his first day.
